I recently spoke to a young boy who’s mother had cancer, I met a lady with breast cancer, a man with a chronic condition, a woman with a severe skin condition, who has a son with an even more severe skin condition, and then there’s my mother, who also has a skin condition that is considered a mysterious illness, and labelled as incurable. When I asked several of them how they managed their condition, they said change of diet, change of thought, change of lifestyle, and with the support of holistic practitioners, because the health care system had failed them. No surprises there, i’ve heard this story on repeat.
This is a topic i discussed with my acupuncturist in great depth. Particularly regarding the use of alternative medicine and Chinese herbs which i’ve been quite drawn to recently. We had a long discussion about the difficulty of getting a licence to create certain herbal remedies because the government in the UK are adamant on allowing people to have access to the benefits of alternative medicine due to the “dangers”. Ye there is little benefit to having a five minute appointment with someone prescribing you pills to support the pharmaceutical industry more than your own condition, (Especially when it concerns something that reaches far beyond a physical issue) and then ushering you out of the room, leaving you feel nothing short of hopeless, armed with no more than a prescription that does not even begin to crack the surface of the underlying problem. Even if it is merely a matter of combating diet, no doctor or specialist, I have visited, touched on the matter of nutrition, one that you would think, would be the most obvious place to start. Nor do they consider the fundamental matter of mind and body connection and how the majority of physical aliments are a manifestation of our emotions. On the other hand, if I visit a holistic practitioner, I sit with them for an hour or more, they go through one’s history, they try to build a big enough picture that allows them to target the complex matter of our psychological condition, in order to understand how that is exacerbating, contributing towards, or causing our physical condition.
This is how illness should be treated. With a great deal of insight and information into the patient’s past, their fears, their habits, their pain, their experiences, their childhood (sounds cliché but it matters) and their methods of dealing with those things. Not reliant on medication that repress the source of discomfort or illness for a while until it manifests into something much worse and our bodies and mind slowly deteriorate, increasing our reliance on these medications, so we come crawling back in an even worse state than before, and still with absolutely no insight whatever so ever in regard to the actual cause of our illness or how to get to the root of it.
We have so much knowledge coming to surface regarding alternative medicine (which is in fact not alternative at all but the original medicine) diet, the power of plants and the power of ancient practises that can help aid a huge majority of the disease we currently struggle to get to the root of, and it is utterly bizarre that we have to go to war in order to get that information out there. Everyone has the right to have access to the treatments that will combat their condition. Everyone has the right to be thoroughly reassured that if they pay a system to support them, be it the NHS or whoever, they will be receiving the sort of treatment that caters to their individual needs, not one for all. This is not how to heal a soul. What is at the root of all illness may consist of a variety of similarities for each person, but how one treats each individual should be unique to them alone. It is difficult to see those close to us suffering and distraught that they may never find a cure to crippling and debilitating diseases and conditions, when the knowledge and solution is right here, yet we are deprived from using that which belongs to no one but the earth, controlled by an industry that treats people for profit, not to help.
It is for this reason among many others that I grow my own food, my own herbs, make my own skincare products, and I am resolute on expanding with what I do myself, and giving others the knowledge and tools to learn how to do the same. To me it is about taking back power and recognising one has a choice to create dramatic change in ways that they still have control over, such as where we get our produce and products from, purchasing them from trustworthy sources that care about providing their customers and patients with quality as much as they care about generating profit. We must object to living a reality where our food is tampered with, our cosmetics are infested with chemicals and we are restricted to using plant based alternative medicine, which nobody has the right to claim ownership over. I repeat – Everyone should be provided with the option to heal via a support system that gives them the knowledge and tools to reverse or at least cope with whatever condition they may suffer with.
Some things to consider –Do your own research. Don’t believe that you are stuck with a lifelong illness. This is simply not true. The body has an incredible ability to reverse disease and heal entirely if we provide it with the right nutrients. The mind is phenomenal in it’s ability to change and support us with this healing process, if we stop going to people that disempower and limit us with our possibilities and turn to those that have extensive knowledge and a deeper understanding of why these illnesses arise. Research, ask questions, understand you have a choice, and you are not restricted to combating your aliments via conventional medicine alone. I am not denying that in some situations it is a necessity to use it however, from my own experience, and that of those who have demanded more support than what the system provides them with, I can safely say that alternative medicine needs to be recognised for the incredible benefits it can provide us with, when all else fails. Please let us stop underestimating the power of that which comes straight from the earth, be it food or herbal remedies, there is a wisdom and knowledge that runs deep throughout mother nature that goes beyond anything the majority of us, or even those who have researched it extensively, can truly grasp or understand, but without a doubt, i well and truly believe, and have witnessed enough stories, examples and evidence to prove that nature provides the answer to almost every human illness that conventional medicine, no matter how many pills are made, can not provide us with.
