Sadly social media has allowed many of us to trivialise and demolish the essence of spirituality with everyone catching onto trends such as yoga and mediation as if these activities automatically make one that much more enlightened, presenting it in a light that expresses it to be some what of a pleasant, simplistic and appealing journey to embark on..…
Here’s the truth of the matter. No one remotely spiritual in the authentic sense would talk about it in association to something fluffy as if it consists of flying over a rainbow on a pink unicorn, riding on a candy coated saddle as chocolate tasting raindrops pelt from the sky. A true ‘journey’ of spirituality to reach the authentic self is dark. it is messy. it is ugly. it is complex and it is absolutely terrifying. Maybe it is self induced when one has decided that one needs to abandon a former self in order to witness transcendence and come into conciousness, brought on by external factors that have resulted in loss of some sort, and a great deal of suffering, or it is a combination of both these things put together. Sometimes we must undertake this venture because we feel our soul is beginning to wilt and that what we have experienced so far is no longer sustaining us, or bringing the peace and clarity we require. Other times we must go on this quest because something has been taken from us, our health, a loved one, a dream…so we must embark on this expedition in order to recover the life inside of us that has been lost. The embarking on that voyage however, take tremendous courage and commitment. It is not something we must portray in as being easy to understand or to become, it is the complete and entire opposite.
So what are the habits of those searching to become more authentically spiritual? This is a huge topic, but here is where one can begin :
-One no longer associates with any low vibration activities :
We so often make ourselves small by losing ourselves to that which is so much smaller than us. That which consists of the mundane topics others speak of. Such as what other people are doing, the sum of their income, general gossip or talk of matters that do not result in positive change for ourselves or others. Gossip is a low vibration activity. Talking negatively about others, or engaging in conversation that is superficial or mindless is like the equivalent of letting weeds and poisonous plants grow in your garden. The conversation does not stimulate or inspire, but rather intoxicates us with dense and dull energy that is a result of us thinking negative or bad things, and the thoughts we consume ourselves with, controls the sort of energy we generate within us. Therefore thinking and speaking good of others and doing good in general, is the equivalent of planting a garden of beautiful flowers, encouraging us to generate an energy that is pure, good and clean, consequently heightening our vibrations. When we are vibrating at a level that is low and unconscious, we do not recognise the damage we are causing towards others and within ourselves from our choice of words or action. So often those we encounter who speak harshly or unkindly towards others, are simply low vibration beings, meaning that they have not evolved to become conscious of the damaging behaviour they are engaging in. Those who are concerned with becoming authentically spiritual or enlightened for the sake of enhancing their own life and generating an energy that attracts others of a similar nature, recognise the activities or habits they must disassociate with, in order to raise their vibrations, and gossiping, negative self-talk, should be the first destructive habits one curbs.
– They know exactly the type of souls they want to spend time with.
Even those who have not quite embarked on a voyage of spiritually but feel the need to, will not be engaging in any of these things because they will recognise the determinant to which it will cause on their sacred energy. Low vibration conversations and activities result in robbing us of experiencing electrifying energy ripple through our bodies from when we engage in matters that truly stimulate us on a level that is so deep, we feel whole and we feel unlimited strength. It is very important that we are mindful and aware during the moments when we are engaged in social activities or with others, because mindfulness allows us to access how we feel about the situation. Do we really want to be here right now? Do we truly feel we are allowing ourselves to be entirely who we are in this space with others because we feel comfortable and safe enough to do so? Or is a part of us holding back because on a sub concious level, we recognise that the space we are currently in, is not allowing us to express ourselves without feeling we will be misunderstood, or belittled for standing out. Authentically Spiritual people will have developed a heightened awareness that allows them to differentiate with much clarity, the people and places they would like to be around more, and those they must keep a distance from, in order to protect their scared and precious energy.
- Our connection to nature : authentically spiritual people will see nature as a vital connection to grow in order to have access to their higher selves. Nature has an energy that is pure and clean and is a reflection of our purest essence. It helps us restore and replenish the energy which humanity has stripped us off. It is vital that we spend time away from the noise and chaos that crowded environments bombard us with, in order to return to our centre and hear our inner callings and desires. Sometimes we can not discern what it is we need in order to move forward and what we need to revive ourselves, and sitting in quiet places, allows us to diminish the noise of outsiders that may be influencing us to tread a part that is not honouring our truth. Nature shows us nothing but the truth. The silence and clarity we find among these big open spaces or amidst woodlands and hills decorated with wild flowers, will force us to face what it is we continue to run from within us. It is vital for our wellbeing that we give ourselves time to connect with the energy of the earth, not only for our emotional wellbeing, but also because the flow of energy between our bodies and mother earth works to support various systems in our bodies that eliminate toxins and prevent inflammation happening. For example, it has been known since the times of ancient healers that earth’s energy could easily be absorbed through the soles of our feet, and now we know that walking barefoot allows the earths electrons to enter our bodies. When this happens, the energy from these electrons synchronise all of our bioelectrical systems which research has shown has the power to reduce inflammation, aid insomnia, muscular strains, asthma, joint conditions, symptoms of lyme diseases and connect us with our natural rhythm, one which modern day living has excelled at disconnecting us from, causing our bodies to become out of sync with our natural rhythms. We continue to disrupt this natural pattern due to ignoring our natural lifestyle habits in order to excel more in our careers and in general. We were not designed to live in a world that moves at such a fast pace, in which we leave little time to connect with the elements which are our greatest energy source and therapy. Research shows that when we are out of sync with our bodies and circadian rhythm, it can cause fatigue, depression, insomnia, weight gain, alcohol abuse and bipolar disorder. When I have discussed the detrimental effects that are caused when we are cut off from this natural flow, many friends would find it difficult to believe that being away from receiving the energy of the earth could cause all this, but if you compare those of us who spend time in natural spaces in comparison to those that don’t you will notice a significant difference in terms of their attitude, energy and health. Authentically spiritual people recognise that connecting with the earth’s energy is an essential daily ritual, and we must all try to incorporate that into our lives, no matter how busy we may be, for the sake of our wellbeing.
- Dropping our attachments to those around us and things that do not serve us : Why is it this such an important part of our transcendence? Whenever we hold onto particular things that cause us more harm then good, not only does this attachment blind us from seeing what we truly need, but it also prevents us attracting the goodness into our lives. I will give you an example. Whenever I have cut ties with someone who I feel is not at the same place in their journey for us to have a soul to soul connection, I recognise it is time to let them go. Although all of us have a great deal of development to do, it is important to recognise that we must develop a self that is honest and authentic, and surround ourselves with those who are our equals in terms of authenticity, in order for us to develop strong and trustworthy bonds. When we distance those that are not bringing the sort of vibrance, peace, truth and honesty that we are searching for in ourselves, we make space for those that strongly consist of these elements. You may ask can we not keep the old ties with the ones we are familiar with, and still allow others with a melody that harmonises perfectly with our own, enter? From the countless experiences I have had, we only allow what is better for us to enter our space, when we remove what is toxic and causing unhealthy attachment.
